What you should know about the Maui Health System transfer

On July 1, 2017, Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kula Hospital, and Lanai Community Hospital will become part of Maui Health System, community hospitals affiliated with Kaiser Permanente.

What does this mean for you as a Kaiser Permanente member?

There is no change for you. You can visit your Kaiser Permanente doctor as usual. You can go to the same Kaiser Permanente clinic you visit now. Your care team will help you get the care you need. As always, we will keep you at the center of everything we do.

These community hospitals will have Kaiser Permanente’s electronic medical record system. If your Kaiser Permanente doctor sends you to one of the hospitals, this system will support your care.

Remember, you can schedule appointments at our Maui locations by visiting kp.org/appointments or calling 808-243-6000. (TTY, call 711.)

What does this mean for the community?

Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kula Hospital, and Lanai Community Hospital will continue to operate as vital community hospitals, open to everyone, regardless of health insurance coverage.

We honor and respect the legacy of the hospitals and value the physicians, providers, and staff who have served the community for many years.

The state of Hawaii and Maui Health System are committed to preserving these facilities as community hospitals – serving all patients, regardless of their health insurance coverage. Many of the same physicians and staff will continue working there. The state and Maui Health System are working together to ensure that residents and visitors on Maui and Lanai have access to high-quality, patient-centered, affordable hospital care.

Another way to carry out our mission

Kaiser Permanente already serves 59,000 members on Maui – more than one-third of Maui County residents. Ensuring everyone on Maui and Lanai has access to high-quality, patient-centered, affordable hospital care is another way we are carrying out our mission.

We’re pleased to work with the state of Hawaii, other health plans, the local medical community, and local officials to support hospital care for the entire community on Maui and Lanai.
